Play Movies and TV App to be Removed By Google

The Google Play Movies and TV App are being removed from every Roku and almost all smart TVs. Google has announced that it will no longer be available on any Roku set-top box or any Samsung, Vizio, LG, or Roku smart TV starting from 15th July. If you have any purchased or rented movies or TV shows through the service, then you will still be able to access those through the “Your movies and shows” section of the YouTube app on those devices.

Play Movies and TV App to be Removed By GoogleIf you used the TV app to access Movies Anywhere, then this will affect you. The service will allow you to redeem codes from DVDs and Blu-rays to access your media digitally. Google has confirmed that those users who depended on the Play Movies and TV to access the content can do so through the YouTube app.

Your personal watchlist will no longer be accessible in the App but it can be seen on the web by Googling my watchlist. However, your family can still share the purchased content from the Movies and TV store. Purchases made on the YouTube app won’t be shared with your family. To view the content on YouTube, log in and then tap “Your movies and shows” in the library.

You can see your Google Play Store movie and TV purchases there along with the content purchased from the YouTube app itself. From one app to another, the transition can be tough. Google hopes to take some of the stings away for users by offering them a gift code that can be applied to their next movie or TV purchase.
