Link Between COVID 19 Vaccine and Menstrual Cycle Investigates a Study

Experts say that since the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, thousands of women in the UK have been saying that their periods have been disrupted. Nearly 30,000 women said their Menstrual Cycle was altered after getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

The UK’s Yellow Card scheme is a space where people can report their side effects to any medication including the covid 19 vaccines. That shows that many women have seen a disruption in their periods.Dr Victoria Male, a Reproductive Immunologist from Imperial College London said that these changes are safe and short-lived, and has stated that an investigation as to why this happens is crucial. The National Institute of Health in the US is investing $1.67 million into understanding how the COVID-19 vaccines impact periods.

The research shows the possible adverse reaction remains critical to the overall success of the vaccination program.  The important reason is that the effects of medical interventions on menstruation should not be an afterthought in future research.

Caroline Criado-Perez, author of Invisible Women said that with most clinical studies, the COVID-19 vaccine trials did not investigate Menstrual Cycle effects. Women are excluded in many trials because of potential Menstrual Cycle effects, so researchers should be grateful for small mercies that women were included at all.
