According to Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla and Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a Covid-19 booster vaccine for people who have already been vaccinated could be required as soon as eight to 12 months after their second shot.
Fauci said, “We know that the vaccine durability of the efficacy lasts at least six months, and likely considerably more, but I think we will almost certainly require a booster sometime within a year or so after getting the primary.” Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows about 47.9% of the US population had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 Vaccine.
Approximately 37.8% of the population is completely vaccinated. More than 33 million cases of Covid-19 had been recorded in the United States as of Wednesday, with more than 587,000 deaths. Variant-specific boosters may not be needed, according to Fauci. Rather than playing whack-a-mole with each variant and developing a variant-specific booster, people should probably keep boosting against the wild form.
People need to get a strong enough result that you wouldn’t have to think about the variants. The virus’s non-mutated strain is known as the wild variety. Pfizer hasn’t done testing on a booster vaccine yet, according to Bourla. According to a March study from Pfizer, the Covid-19 Vaccine could be more like measles vaccines than flu vaccines. In 96 percent of individuals, the measles vaccine protects them from infection for the rest of their lives.
