Chicago Officials Urge Monkeypox Precautions at Summer Gatherings

Due to a few of monkeypox cases have been verified in the city, the Chicago Department of Public Health is urging citizens to take precautions while socialising with others this summer. Officials have been working with the organisers of huge summer events to give advice on how to stay safe, according to a release issued Monday by the department. Officials advise that if someone is unwell, has a rash, or has sores, they should not attend a gathering and should get medical attention as soon as possible.

According to the announcement, anybody attending a festival or other major summer event should assess how much close, skin-to-skin contact will occur. “While the risk of monkeypox in Chicago remains low, CDPH wants the public to be able to make educated decisions about gathering in venues or attending activities where monkeypox might be spread via close or personal contact,” said Chicago Public Health Commissioner Allison Arwady in a statement.

In the United States, there have been 49 confirmed cases in 16 states and Washington, D.C. The department came up with a draught letter that included safety tips. Event planners may use it to create letterhead and “palm cards” to hand out at their events, which include a scannable smartphone code that can be used to access further information.The Department of Public Health has been assisting clinical partners in identifying infections, tracking down contacts, and monitoring the symptoms of patients. Early on in the illness, affected persons may have flu-like symptoms before developing lesions on one region of the body that spread to other places.
